From his exercises to achieve clutch control to working through your gears smoothly I really felt comfortable and impressed with kens calmness, knowledge and overall experience when it comes not only to trucks and how they operate differently to motor vehicles but in being able to translate that into teaching someone how to operate that vehicle correctly and safely in my eyes is truly amazing. My aim was to obtain a HR (B) licence to enable me to pursue opportunities in the public transport and bus operations industry.

I chose KMS due to the personalised service, the 20 years training experience of proprietor Ken Stanaway, and the driver friendly FD Hino truck with a flat-bed tray and six speed synchromesh gear box as the training vehicle.

Even though I had attained over 37 years driving experience in cars and four-wheel-drives Ken was able to methodically start me off in a stepped process to gain familiarity with the requirements of truck driving and cover many aspects that car drivers don’t appreciate when one drives a truck. His direct instruction and commentary was easy to follow plus attention to detail was impressive. In my case Ken determined during the initial lesson that 3 by 2 hour sessions were required before I was ready for the Queensland Transport driving test. Ken efficiently arranged the booking and documentation required.

On the test day Ken supervised a final 1 hour session to free up the nerves and cover all bases that a Driving Inspector will observe and tick off in the test drive. Subsequently I passed the test and acknowledged that Ken had taught me to a standard above what is required to pass the test.

I therefore highly recommend KMS Driving School and Ken Stanaway to persons determined to obtain the best HR licence training, the best chance to pass their test and then continue safe and productive application of learned heavy vehicle driving techniques as future professional drivers.

Having explained what I wanted from learning to drive and obtain my licence for a Heavy Rigid Vehicle you were able to tailor a plan that suited.

Given the very soul-destroying and negative experience I had had previously I was not sure how it would go.

Well I got the licence. Without your assistance and training my money from before was wasted. Now I not only have the licence but I have some life skills picked up along the way haven’t been able to tackle a skill that my previous instructor made me feel were simply beyond me.

…. prior to meeting Ken I had quite a strange experience with another truck driving school whilst doing my first lesson, not only did they charge me $180 per hour, the instructor thought he would have a wee nana nap in the back whilst I drove around the block for nearly the last hour, I won’t name the company but it was a “Brisbane Based Truck School”… What I really liked about Ken over the “other” company is that before we even got in and started driving was how he explained how the truck operated mechanically, it really helped to make driving so much easier… I would definitely recommend Ken and KMS driving school to anyone who wants to get their truck license, thanks again mate!
